Installation

Common questions about installing and setting up the SpeedSync plugin.

How do I install SpeedSync for Assetto Corsa?

Follow these simple steps:

  1. Download the plugin from our integrations page
  2. Extract all files to Steam\steamapps\common\assettocorsa\apps\python\SpeedSync\
  3. Enable Python apps in AC settings: Options → General → Python Apps
  4. Restart Assetto Corsa
  5. Look for SpeedSync in the right-side app panel during any session

For detailed instructions, check our installation guide.

SpeedSync doesn't appear in the game. What should I do?

If the plugin doesn't load, check these common issues:

  • Python apps disabled: Make sure Python apps are enabled in AC settings
  • Wrong directory: Files must be in apps/python/SpeedSync/ not just apps/python/
  • Missing files: Ensure all plugin files are extracted correctly
  • Restart required: Completely restart Assetto Corsa after installation
Check the log file at apps/python/SpeedSync/speedsync.log for specific error messages.

Does SpeedSync work with Content Manager?

Yes! SpeedSync works perfectly with Content Manager. Install the plugin in the same location and it will work with both the original AC launcher and Content Manager.

Content Manager users should still ensure Python apps are enabled in the game settings.

  • Accessing the web dashboard

Tracking & Data

Understanding how SpeedSync tracks and manages your racing data.

What is a theoretical best lap time?

A theoretical best lap time is calculated by adding together your best sector times from the current session:

Theoretical Best = Best Sector 0 + Best Sector 1 + Best Sector 2 Example: 45.123s + 52.456s + 48.789s = 2:26.368

This represents the fastest possible lap time you could achieve if you could combine all your best sectors into a single lap. It's a great way to see your improvement potential!

SpeedSync calculates theoretical best times for each session, so you can track your consistency and progress over time.

Does SpeedSync work with modded tracks and cars?

Yes! SpeedSync works with any track or car in Assetto Corsa, including:

  • Official Kunos content
  • DLC tracks and cars
  • Community mods
  • Track day and drift cars
  • Custom layouts

The plugin reads track and car names directly from AC's API, so it automatically supports any content you have installed.

Performance

Questions about SpeedSync's impact on game performance.

Does SpeedSync affect my FPS or game performance?

SpeedSync has minimal impact on game performance:

  • Runs as a lightweight background thread
  • Only reads data from AC's shared memory
  • No rendering or graphics processing
  • Typical CPU usage: <1%
  • Memory usage: ~10-20MB

Most users report no noticeable FPS impact. The plugin is designed to be as efficient as possible.

How much internet bandwidth does SpeedSync use?

SpeedSync uses very little bandwidth:

  • Typical lap data: ~500 bytes per lap
  • 10-minute session: ~5-10KB total
  • 1-hour session: ~20-50KB total
  • Only uploads when lap completes

Even on slower internet connections, data usage is negligible and won't affect your gaming experience.

Troubleshooting

Solutions to common problems and issues.

SpeedSync says "API connection test failed". What should I do?

This error indicates the plugin can't connect to SpeedSync servers. Try these solutions:

  1. Check internet connection: Make sure you're online
  2. Firewall settings: Allow SpeedSync through Windows Firewall
  3. Antivirus software: Whitelist the SpeedSync folder
  4. Server status: Check if our servers are operational
  5. Restart plugin: Reload the SpeedSync app in AC
If the problem persists, check the log file for specific error details.

My lap times aren't being saved. What's wrong?

If lap times aren't being recorded, check:

  • Login status: Make sure you're logged in to SpeedSync
  • Internet connection: Data needs connection to upload
  • Session type: Some practice modes may not trigger lap detection
  • Lap completion: Cross the start/finish line completely
  • Plugin status: Check if SpeedSync app is active

Look for messages in the SpeedSync app window and check the log file for detailed information.

I can't log in with my credentials. What should I try?

If login isn't working:

  1. Check spelling: Verify username and password are correct
  2. Case sensitivity: Passwords are case-sensitive
  3. Web vs plugin: Try logging in on the website first
  4. Clear saved data: Uncheck "Remember Me" and try again
  5. Server connection: Ensure API connection is working

If you still can't log in, contact support for assistance with your account.

Technical

Technical questions for advanced users and developers.

How accurate are the lap times compared to AC's built-in timing?

SpeedSync lap times are identical to AC's built-in timing because:

  • Uses AC's native acsys.CS.LastLap API
  • Same timing source as the game's own displays
  • No additional processing or modification
  • Millisecond-precise timing data

You can trust that SpeedSync times exactly match what AC reports internally.

Where are my log files located?

SpeedSync creates log files for troubleshooting:

# Main log file location: Steam\steamapps\common\assettocorsa\apps\python\SpeedSync\speedsync.log # Contains information about: - Plugin initialization - API connections - Lap and sector data - Error messages - Authentication status

These logs are essential for diagnosing issues. Include relevant log excerpts when reporting problems.

Can I export my data for analysis in other tools?

Data export functionality is planned for future releases. Currently, you can:

  • View all data through the web dashboard
  • Access detailed session breakdowns
  • Compare performance across sessions
  • View theoretical best calculations

We're working on CSV and JSON export options for advanced analysis tools.
